# "Failed to Add the Device" Error in Smart Life App

### 🔴 Symptom

When pairing SPM, SDM, or SRS series devices, the Smart Life app times out and displays a red **"Failed to add the device"** error message.

### 🟢 How to Fix

*Every Tuya-enabled device from Bituo undergoes strict factory testing before shipment. If you encounter this error, it is typically related to app compatibility or a product version mismatch. Please check the following two common causes:*

**1. Update the Smart Life App** Older versions of the app might not recognize our newest device firmware.

* **Action:** Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), update **Smart Life** to the latest version, and try pairing again.

**2. Verify Your Device Version** Bituo offers different connectivity versions for the SPM/SDM/SRS series. The Smart Life app **only** works with devices equipped with Tuya Wi-Fi or Tuya Zigbee modules.

* **Action:** Check the label on your device or your original order details. Ensure you have the **Tuya Wi-Fi** or **Tuya Zigbee** version. *(For example, versions like Standard Zigbee 3.0 or Open Wi-Fi are not compatible and cannot be added to the Smart Life app.)*
